Last Updated:

Does eWallet for iPhone & iPad support Apple’s Touch ID?

Yes/support/ewallet/faq/ewallet-for-ios-and-face-id/! Starting with version 8.1, eWallet® on iPhone & iPad will support Touch ID. This feature is turned off by default, but you can enable it for your wallet(s) as outlined below. (Looking for information on Face ID? See eWallet for iPhone & iPad and Face ID.)

To enable Touch ID:

  • unlock your wallet with your password
  • go to the More (three dots) menu
  • select Touch ID
  • select Enabled

You’re all set, you can now use Touch ID to unlock your wallet. Please see the notes below for important information on using Touch ID will eWallet.

To use Touch ID:

If you don’t see the Touch ID panel when you start eWallet, then simply press the “Tap to unlock with Touch ID” button right below the password prompt. When you see the Touch ID panel, you can unlock your wallet using a finger in the same way that you unlock your device.

Important Notes

Touch ID is a convenience but is not a permanent substitute for knowing your wallet password. There are several ways that Touch ID can be turned off, so it’s really important that you remember the password to your wallet.

It is also important that you understand what it means to use Touch ID with your wallet:

iOS 8

  • When Touch ID is enabled for a wallet, that wallet can be unlocked in one of three ways: the wallet password, the fingerprint scanner, or the device passcode
  • Since the device passcode will provide access to a Touch ID enabled wallet (or anything else protected by Touch ID), we recommend turning off Simple Passcode in the Settings App (under Touch ID & Passcode)
  • We recommend setting a strong password for your device passcode (Settings App, Touch ID & Passcode) – it should be at least as strong as your wallet password
  • Touch ID can be enabled on a wallet by wallet basis; you can have it turned on for some wallets and not others

iOS 9+

  • When Touch ID is enabled for a wallet, that wallet can be unlocked in one of two ways: the wallet password, or the fingerprint scanner
  • Touch ID can be enabled on a wallet by wallet basis; you can have it turned on for some wallets and not others
