How to restore eWallet data on your iOS device
Every once in a while we get an email like, “Help, I deleted eWallet and now all my wallet information is gone!” Yes, iOS (the iPhone/iPad operating system) will delete all of an application’s data when the app itself is deleted (this is true for any app, not just eWallet). Fortunately, eWallet® for iOS provides several different methods to protect your data:
- eWallet can sync your data to the Dropbox cloud
- eWallet can sync your data to iCloud
- eWallet can sync your data via a local WiFi connection to the optional eWallet for Windows PC (desktop) or eWallet for Mac versions
- eWallet can create a backup using its built-in Email Wallet Backup feature
Apple also provides the ability to backup your entire system via iCloud and or iTunes.
Restoring your wallet file
There are several ways to get your eWallet data back on your iOS device:
- If you used the built-in backup-facility in eWallet to email yourself a backup, you can open that email (or send yourself a new email and attach your saved wallet) and eWallet on iOS will be able to open the attachment; just open your email on your iOS device, tap and hold the attached wallet file and choose to open it in eWallet
- If you synced to the cloud with Dropbox, follow our Dropbox instructions here under “Option 2 - My wallet is in the cloud but not yet on my device”
- If you synced with to the cloud with iCloud, follow our iCloud instructions here under the “to setup additional iOS devices with iCloud” section
- If you synced over a local WiFi connection with the PC or Mac version of eWallet, then you should be able to setup sync to your iOS device and sync over a new copy of your wallet

Apple restore options
The information above should help you restore your wallet information in most cases. If you can’t for some reason though, there may be other ways to get your data back outside of using eWallet itself.
1. Restore system from iCloud or iTunes
If you use iCloud or iTunes to back up your entire device, then you should be able to restore your device from that iCloud or iTunes backup as well.
2. Restore just the wallet file from iTunes
It may be possible that a backup of your eWallet data has been saved by iTunes automatically. We have no control over iTunes, so we cannot guarantee that iTunes has a backup of your data, but you could try to recover your data by doing this:
ON A PC or MAC:
- Go to this site to download and install the Free Edition of the iPhone Backup Extractor:
- Once installed, iPhone Backup Extractor will start up by itself
- Under Devices and your iOS device, choose the backup from which you would like to recover your data
- Click the “Expert Mode” tab (to the right) to display a navigable tree-view of the data inside your selected backup
- Click the + next to Application Groups → com.iliumsoft.eWallet.SharedStorage → Documents, where you should see all wallet (.wlt) data files that were saved in the backup (for eWallet versions earlier than 8.4, use Application → com.iliumsoft.eWallet → Documents)
- Check the box next to one of your wallets; The free version of the backup extractor may only be able to extract one file at a time
- Click the “Extract” button for the option to save the wallet file to your computer
- When it comes up asking you to pay, just click CONTINUE, under the Free version
- Save the extracted wallet file to your Documents folder.
- Open your Documents folder, and double-click the wallet file you saved here, to open in eWallet
If your data is here, you can close the iPhone backup extractor utility.
