Ilium Software today released InScribe 2007, a new approach to text entry for Microsoft’s new Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs) and Tablet PCs. InScribe 2007 is a fully customizable on-screen keyboard that uses an innovative text entry technique where the user slides the stylus from letter to letter to enter text. This method of text entry is fast, natural, and easy to learn. InScribe 2007 also allows text entry via the standard key tap method or by turning the entire display into a touch sensitive keyboard. Because the InScribe 2007 keyboard can be transparent, the user can enter text on it and still see his or her work.
On September 12th, InScribe 2007 was honored at the Handango Summit when it was announced as the winner of the “Best UMPC Software” competition sponsored by Microsoft and Handango. Microsoft judges cited InScribe’s ease of use, adaptability, and attention to quality as the basis for its selection.
Before the release of InScribe 2007, advance copies were sent to Microsoft MVPs for review. James Kendrick of the respected UMPC and Tablet PC website JkOnTheRun.com was particularly impressed. In his review of the product he described it as “…the fastest on-screen keyboard I have ever worked with and very accurate.”
InScribe is Ilium Software’s first product designed specifically for Microsoft’s new UMPC (also known as Origami) platform. “We’re very excited about moving into the UMPC market” said Marc Tassin, Senior Product Manager for Ilium Software. “The platform has amazing potential and is a great addition to the mobile device landscape.”
