Ilium Software Releases Innovative Text Entry for UMPCs

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Ilium Software today released InScribe 2007, a new approach to text entry for Microsoft’s new Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs) and Tablet PCs. InScribe 2007 is a fully customizable on-screen keyboard that uses an innovative text entry technique where the user slides the stylus from letter to letter to enter text. This method of text entry is fast, natural, and easy to learn. InScribe 2007 also allows text entry via the standard key tap method or by turning the entire display into a touch sensitive keyboard. Because the InScribe 2007 keyboard can be transparent, the user can enter text on it and still see his or her work.

On September 12th, InScribe 2007 was honored at the Handango Summit when it was announced as the winner of the “Best UMPC Software” competition sponsored by Microsoft and Handango. Microsoft judges cited InScribe’s ease of use, adaptability, and attention to quality as the basis for its selection.

Before the release of InScribe 2007, advance copies were sent to Microsoft MVPs for review. James Kendrick of the respected UMPC and Tablet PC website JkOnTheRun.com was particularly impressed. In his review of the product he described it as “…the fastest on-screen keyboard I have ever worked with and very accurate.”

InScribe is Ilium Software’s first product designed specifically for Microsoft’s new UMPC (also known as Origami) platform. “We’re very excited about moving into the UMPC market” said Marc Tassin, Senior Product Manager for Ilium Software. “The platform has amazing potential and is a great addition to the mobile device landscape.”

Ilium Software is well known for being a market leader in mobile device software. The company’s award-winning titles include eWallet, ListPro, NewsBreak, and DockWare, available for Windows Mobile Smartphone, Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Palm OS, and Windows PC. Ilium Software was founded in 1997 and has worked closely with Microsoft, as well as with Handango and Motricity, to create and distribute their titles. Ilium Software was a founding member of Microsoft’s Mobile Partner Advisory Council, and was awarded Handango’s “Developer of the Year” in 2005.

InScribe 2007 is currently available at no charge from Ilium Software’s website at http://www.iliumsoft.com/inscribe.

Good News From the Handango Summit

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

We’ve just gotten two pieces of good news from the Handango Summit:

eWallet (Professional Edition) won the Handango Champion 2006 award for Best Application for Life on the Pocket PC platform. The Champion awards are Handango’s annual awards recognizing the top software in various categories. Users choose their favorite programs to be nominated, then the final awards are chosen by an independent panel of judges made up of industry experts in the mobile software field.

InScribe, which we’ll be releasing later this month for the new Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) platform, was one of the 3 winning programs in Handango’s best new UMPC software contest. The 3 winning programs were selected by independent experts and Microsoft personnel as showing best utilization of the features and functionality of the new platform.

We’ll have more information very soon.
